MISSION STATEMENT

•        Working with international Chinese speaking people in improving fundamental skills in the American English language.

METHODOLOGY

• Students develop the speaking skills necessary to both communicate with native English speakers and pursue their English-related academic and/or career goals.
• We help with the practical application of language, focusing on communication rather than content.

PROMISE

• Small, student-centered classes (a maximum of seven students)
• Improve correctness in speech through speaking development and practice labs.
• Improve communicating ideas in writing through individualized assignments and grading.
• Improve listening and understanding through interactive conversation.

COURSE ELEMENTS

• Grammar:  understanding structure and tense
• Vocabulary:  adding new words and definitions
• Speaking:  conversation
• Listening:  understanding key spoken ideas
• Reading:  sight words and phonics
• Writing:  putting ideas on paper
• Pronunciation:  fixing common problems in talking

TERMS OF SERVICE:

• The course is offered in the fall and spring semester and will normally meet from 12 to 15 times.
• The cost of the course is $150; it is not refundable. The prospective student is allowed to visit the first session of class free, before deciding to continue; however, payment in full must be made upon enrolling for the course.
• The course is offered as an extension of the mission of the Corpus Christi Chinese Church. The $150 fee is necessary to cover expenses in offering the class.
